This has been another year of growth and maturation for our club. Although I was gone for many weeks, I was proud to see the club continue to function under the true leadership and direction of Senpai Haight. She, of course, was assisted by our ISKF Instructor Trainees: Beth Fournier, Chris Moller, Mark Luthi and Chee Chew. Not to mention our formidable assistant instructors: Saman Gharai, Stephan Mueller, Ed Mecum, Kevin Klucher, Matt Campbell and Ryan Holcomb.

Camp Brotherhood
We must remember our 15th Annual Camp Brotherhood held May 11-14, 2006. Our special guest was Robin Rielly, 7th Dan from the East Coast. A great karate instructor, author, historian, photographer, doting dad and husband. Mr. Rielly is one of the first karate practitioners to train with Sensei Okazaki in the US, and trained in Japan in the 50's. We loved his stories and the fact that he shared time with us in the Pacific Northwest.

ISKF National Tournament in Anchorage
The ISKF NW Region and WWSKC was proud to have Kris Haight and Beth Fournier represented at the 2006 ISKF National Tournament in Anchorage. Beth & Kris both judged and Kris attended the national Board of Directors meeting. Our region was well represented in the competition, taking first place in both individual and team events.
A BIG NOTE OF THANKS
Finally, this was a rather "trying" year for me, and I want to thank everyone who helped me stay afloat during those months of recovery and rehab; Thank you Beth for the great poster that folks signed and Ed and Nicole brought and hung on my wall at Swedish! It continually reminded me of my great friends and why I was going through this. Thank you for the meals that you cooked - thank you Joe and Lisa Sims, Roseann & Chris, Stephanie Raffetto, Kris Haight, Cele, and Stephan who sent me a Juniors Cheesecake from NYC. The assorted breads from Harry & Davids; Gloria's supply of chocolate; Saman, thanks for the green tea breakfast muffins from Koots. Chris Moller, Bryan, Gloria, Stephanie, and friends that brought me magazines and reading materials at the hospital. The visitors who brought their smiling faces, kept me engaged in conversation, and kept my mind occupied! Thank you Kris Haight for staying with me on my first night out of Swedish and at my mom's. No one knew what to expect that first night, but we knew it would be OK because Kris was there!
Going back to my own home was soooooo nice because several wonderful teams of 'miracle workers' had descended upon my home and transformed it into a "user friendly" environment! It was great to look through clean windows, have all dishes within reach, my garage cleaned up and boxed, my yard manicured and looking beautiful, and food in the refrigerator! It was really quite amazing.
Thanks to our Webmaster (Bulmaro), and Kris Haight for providing updates, which kept a running commentary on my progress. Our webpage not only kept folks informed, but reduced the rate of phone calls and emails from well wishers and curious parties, allowing me more time to rest, or play scrabble with Cele! And, when I went back into surgery for more "punishment" - thank you again Kris Haight for being my advocate and helping me "escape" from UW hospital!
Big thanks to Beckie Brocies who spent three nights at my home after my release looking after my grocery needs, personal needs, doctor appointments, and transportation for weeks after my return home. I could go on and on, but most of all, I want to thank you for the dedication every one of you show every time you step foot in the dojo. As Hillary Clinton says, "it takes a village," well, I say, "it takes a dojo!"
